April TBA, 2018 –  Lavaman Waikoloa Triathlon Festival

Waikoloa Beach Resort

The Lavaman Triathlon will be held at the Waikoloa Beach Resort. This Olympic distance triathlon starts at 7:30am with a 1.5k swim in Anaeho’omalu Bay, continues with a 40k bike on the Queen K Highway and then a 10k run through the resort’s hotel grounds and lava fields, finishing on the beach. (First finishers will reach Anaeho`omalu Bay at 9am.) The event is a major fundraiser for Team in Training as well as local area non-profit organizations.

April TBA, 2018 Annual Big Island AIDS Walk – Hilo

Registration is now open for the Annual Big Island AIDS Walk being held from 8am until noon on Saturday, April TBA This exciting, family event is an easy 2 mile walk around the beautiful Lili’uokalani Gardens in Hilo.

There will be a Community Organization Health Fair, live entertainment, raffle prizes and light refreshments. There is no registration fee; every registered walker who raises $20 or more will receive a commemorative event t-shirt. You can register to walk as an individual walker, start a team, join an existing team or support a walker.

April TBA, 2018 The 55th. Annual Merrie Monarch Festival – Hilo

A week-long festival of cultural events including Hawaii’s most prestigious hula competition at Edith Kanaka’ole Stadium.

The festival begins with a Ho’olaule’a at the auditorium behind the Stadium on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with lots of music, food and fun.

Don’t miss the Merrie Monarch Invitational Hawaiian Arts Fair that takes place beginning Wednesday, with incredible fresh lei, cream-of-the-crop Hawaiian crafts, and free, live music performances by some of Hawai`i’s most beloved entertainers in the building adjacent to the Stadium.

On Wednesday, Ho`ike Night, there is also a free hula exhibition at the Stadium that begins at 6:30 pm (get there very early to stand in line!).

Thursday is the solo Miss Aloha Hula competition;

Friday & Saturday are the group Kahiko (ancient) and ‘Auana (modern) hula competitions. A grand parade winds through Hilo-town on Saturday morning.

The 25th Annual Hawaii Arts, Crafts & Food Festival will be held during Merrie Monarch Week on TBA, from 9 am-5pm at Sangha Hall, Hilo. The Festival will feature over 100 artisans and food vendors.
