May TBA, 2018 – Party For Wildfire Awareness

Where: Old Kona Airport Beach Park from 9 a.m. to 4

Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization invites you to a Party for Wildfire Awareness in honor of Wildfire Preparedness Day. Everyone is invited to the free event, which will take place on the beach side towards the entrance of the park at the northwest end of Kuakini Highway. The party will offer a range of free family-friendly activities for the public, highlight natural and cultural resource protection efforts across Hawai’i Island, and share simple steps that can be taken around homes, yards, and communities to protect residents and families from wildfire.

The event will also offer festive, fun, and free activities such as capoeira, swing dance, and yoga classes, fire truck demonstrations, various games and activities for keiki, a goat petting zoo, a canoe showcase, raffle prizes, live performances, workshops, informational booths, and food vendors.

May TBA, 2018 – Kona Orchid Society Orchid Show, Plant & Craft Sale

Where: Old Kona Airport Beach Park from 9 a.m. to 4 at the event pavilion.

Orchid Growing Classes begin on the hour, from 11AM-3PM.

Featuring orchid vendors from alll over the island with exotic orchid species and exciting new hybrids.

Many handmade craft Items and fine art. There will also be pottery, ceramics and lava pots, real flower jewelry, nurturing gemstones & jewelry, anthurium plants, flowers, cards, fused glass, photography, succulents, dragon fruit, proteas, air plants, day lilies, herbs, tropical plants, fruit trees and more.

May 19 – 28, 2017 – Ka’u Coffee Festival

Ka’u Coffee Festival celebrates everything that makes Ka’u special. It kicks off with the Pa’ina Open House at Pahala Plantation House and continues with a recipe contest, pageant, the new Lobsterpalooza, Ka’u Mountain Water Systems Hike in Wood Valley, Coffee & Cattle Day at Aikane Plantation, and Ka’u Star Gazing.

Fun culminates with the all-day Ho’olaulea May TBA, and Coffee College May TBA, at Pahala Community Center. The Ho’olaule’a offers Hawaiian entertainment; craft, coffee and food booths; Ka’u Coffee Experience with guided coffee tastings and farm tours.

Kicking off the 2018 Moku O Keawe Outrigger Racing Association’s regatta season is Kai Ehitu Outrigger Team’s 36th Annual Papa Kimitete Regatta.

Where: HONOKA’A, 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM., Free

The Annual Farm Festival at Hamakua Harvest (at the intersection of Mamane Street and Mamalahoa/Highway 19 in Honoka’a) will be a free, family-friendly event celebrating local agriculture and the community.

The festivities will feature a 35+ vendor farmers’ market, an all day line-up of entertainment and educational presentations; cooking demonstrations; activities for the keiki; and a silent auction. Support our local farmers, hang out and listen to local musicians, taste a variety of the Hamakua regional artisanal food while enjoying the incredible beauty of Hamakua. SNAP/EBT purchases will be warmly welcomed.
