December 1 & 2, 2017 – Annual Na Makua Invitational Christmas Gift Fair

Friday, 4-9pm; Saturday 9am-3pm at Ah Fook Chinen Civic Auditorium, Manono St., Hilo.

This fair features products that showcase the talents of local artists and offer a diverse selection of unique Christmas gifts. All applicants are screened with consideration given to the uniqueness, quality and craftsmanship of the product. Items made in Hawaii are preferred, but items are examined on a case by case basis. Live entertainment.

December 2, 2017, Holualoa Music And Light Festival, Kona

Witness the lighting of the town Christmas tree, listen to musicians perform Christmas music thru the evening at stages around the village, and receive treats from the galleries and shops in this charming little artists’ colony in the middle of Kona coffee country. Santa will show up too!

December TBA, 2017, Twilight Christmas Parade – Waimea

Starting at Church Row, and ending at Waimea Town Park. Visit with Santa Parker Ranch Center immediately after the parade and have a free picture taken with him. There will be goody bags for all children, while supplies last. Charitable donations will be accepted to benefit the Waimea Lions Club and North Hawai`i Hospice.

December 9, 2017 – Annual Kailua Kona Christmas Parade

The parade will begin at 4:45 pm at the Kekuaokalani Gym next to Kona Pool, go south on Kuakini, down Palani Rd., and along Ali`i Drive to Walua Rd., just past Coconut Grove Marketplace.

There will be around 75 entries in the parade with numerous musical entries, and more than half of the entries will beautifully light up the evening, including HELCO’s Toy’s For Tots Train, and of course, Santa and his reindeer. The Kailua-Kona Community Christmas Parade will once again be supportive of Hawai`i Island’s Food Basket.

December 10, 2017 – Hulihe’e Palace Monthly Event

Sun. 4 PM, Free, Hulihe’e Palace’s South Lawn

Hawaiian music featuring the Hawai’i County Band with kahiko hula by kumu Etua Lopes’ Na Pua U`i O Hawai`i hula halau on the at 4 p.m., presented by the Daughters of Hawai`i. Bring beach mats or chairs.

This large Fair in Hilo, sponsored by Hawaii Art & Craft, will showcase vendors throughout the state. Food will be available for purchase. Prize giveaways. Lots of free parking.

December 16, 2017 – Hula Arts at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hula

Hula featuring Kumu hula Sammye Ku’ualoha Young with Halau Na Lei Hiwahiwa o Ku’ualoha performed in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (platform) in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park.

Time: 10:30-11:30 am. This performance is rain or shine without electronic amplification.

Audience members are encouraged to bring sun/rain gear and sitting mats. This free event is supported in part by a grant from the Hawai’i Tourism Authority and the County of Hawai’i Dept. of Research and Development.

Hawaii`s first Christian church (established in 1820) will hold its Christmas Eve Candlelight Service beginning at 8pm, with pre-service caroling under the front arch at 7pm. All are welcome to this beautiful celebration of Jesus’ birthday with Christmas hymns and hula. Mokuaikaua Church is located at 75-5713 Alii Drive, across the street from Hulihee Palace.

Wailea Village, Hamakua

Join what has now become a tradition for many locals & visitors alike at the quiet little plantation village of Wailea, Hakalau. Make traditional rice cakes the “old-fashioned” way. Everyone takes their turn at pounding the glutinous sticky rice for good luck. From 8-2pm; fire building starts at 7 a.m. to steam the rice. Hearty local-style lunch available for sale. New Years crafts, food vendors, fortune telling, massage, I Ching readings, floral arrangements, plantation stories, Okinawan taiko drumming, Hawaiian entertainment & more.
