Where To Eat in South Kona

Holualoa Café Restaurant: you can’t miss this garden setting restaurant across from the ”pink hotel” (no way you’ll miss the pink hotel).  Garden seating, casual. Lunch and early dinner prepared with island produce.

The Coffee Shack – This is one of our favourite places for breakfast or lunch.  On the way to Kealakekua and Captain Cook, there is a quaint road-side restaurant called, Coffee Shack just past the Mile Marker 109 …directly on the road (81-6637 Mamalahoa Hwy) …you can’t miss it. It’s on the right-hand-side of the road, and you will see a small house and a lot of cars parked outside. Seating is outsideon the deck overlooking Kealakekua Bay. Their salads, sandwiches and pies are pretty good.  100% Kona coffee …the bread and cakes are made there each morning.  Not expensive.  Good, friendly service…cosy and local style.

Big Jakes BBQ – Honaunau. If you’re heading to Honaunau Bay from Kona, look for 83-5308 Mamalahoa Hwy Ste B. This place is easy to drive by without noticing it. It’s on the left-hand side of the road, about 7 to 10 miles before you get to the Honaunau turnoff. It’s a little roadside stand with a big smoker-bbq in front. Good for local style food fresh every day. These guys win local awards for their fresh-grilled meats which they serve as platters or in sandwiches.  These guys came in 1st and 2nd place in pork and beef categories in the Hilo Bay BBQ Cook-Off (2009).  Local style ribs, briskett, hotdogs, etc….on the BBQ.
