Quite a number of our guests have been to the other islands, such as Maui and Kauai, before they give the Big Island a try. The State of Hawaii consists of six main islands to visit, and each have both similarities and their own unique characteristics. From the top of the chain the main Hawaiian Islands that can be easily visited are:  Kauai, Oahu, Maui, Molokai, Lanai and Hawaii (also called the Big Island). All are lovely and interesting with beaches and rainforests. Some islands are more developed for tourism than others with their tall buildings, shopping malls, resorts and multi-lane highways. Others don't even have a single traffic light and building codes that do not permit structures higher than a palm tree! So, why should you choose to visit the Big Island?  Simply, Hawaii - The Big Island, has it all. From delicate orchids and lush rainforests, to miles and miles where lava flowed and still flows, this island is the island of superlatives. The Big Island is the largest of the islands, more than twice the size of all the others combined, and is created from 5 volcanoes (Kilauea is the only volcano in the world with continuous lava flow). Mauna Kea (White Mountain) volcano is the highest mountain in the world when measured from its base in the ocean. Parker Ranch, one of the biggest privately owned ranches, holds a unique time in the island's history. Eleven out of thirteen microclimate zones ranging from barren moonscape, lava fields, to tropical rain forest, rushing waterfalls, snowcapped mountains, rolling pastures, desert, and open ranch land - offer visitors a complete experience. The Big Island does have it all!
